Strange lights have been seen and ghostly shadows have been witnessed walking past windows of rooms that have no floors. A strange mist has been said to appear moving in the chapel, with heavy footsteps coming from the rooms above.
The tunnels imbedded in the rock face is said to have played host to demon worship and a history of witchcraft is reported to of taken place on the site. What energies has this practice left roaming this location.
The Brief History
Guys Cliffe Mansion has stood on this site since the early Saxon times and takes it’s name from Guy of Warwick, a trusted servant to the Saxon Earl of Warwick. It is said that Guy on his retirement became a hermit living alone on the land, and for this in 1423 a Chantry was founded on the site.
The site passed into private hands at the turn of the dissolution of the Monasteries and in 1751, a West India Merchant by the name of Samuel Greatheed built the House we see today including a private chapel, which is today owned and used by the Freemasons.
Guys Cliffe House currently sits in a ruined state, but during the Great War and World War II it was used by evacuee children giving shelter to many refugees from the great Cities.
In 1992 a destructive fire broke out at Guys Cliffe House, caused during filming of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, A fire scene got out of control resulting in a large amount of the house being lost and no standing in ruin.
