What's happening?

The Jazz Café dedicate a night to exploring the musical life of Soweto – South Africa’s largest and most famous township – in the company of Cape Town trumpeter Claude Deppa and Fela Kuti’s old bandmate Bukky Leo. Spawning the mbaqanga genre, a guitar-based style popularised by Paul Simon’s Graceland, the Johannesburg township is responsible for one of Africa’s defining sounds. Jazz too, represented defiance against the provincial existence imposed by the apartheid machine, remaining as a symbol
