RYA Senior Instructor Course

What's happening?

Dear Instructors
We are delighted to be able to offer an RYA Senior Instructor Course at Killyleagh Outdoor Education Centre in November this year. The course coaches are Jane Campbell Morrison, and myself. The dates are 11th-12th November and 18th-19th November. The course is non-residential. The course times are 9.30am until 8pm on the two Saturdays and 9.30am-5pm on the Sundays. Dinner is included on the Saturday evenings.

Details of pre-requisites are on this web page:

Candidates must first be an RYA Dinghy Instructor and must fulfil the following criteria prior to the SI course:
• At least two years intermittent or one year full time instructing since qualifying as an RYA Dinghy or Multihull Instructor (please make sure you have this logged).
• Sailing ability to at least the standard of RYA Instructor (an assessment may be necessary if sailing ability cannot be adequately demonstrated during the training course)
Before the course you will need to:
• Get signed recommendation from the Principal of an RYA Recognised Training Centre.
• Complete the Senior Instructor Workbook (found on the website mentioned above) and any preparation work we send you prior to the course.

You also need to have an up-to-date RYA First aid certificate, RYA Safetyboat Certificate and RYA Safe and Fun certificate. The Safe and Fun Certificate can be done online if you didn’t do the online version for your DI course. Details can be found on the RYA website.

Seaboard Sailing Association members have had priority in booking onto the course, however, the remaining places after 16th October will go to the public on a first in first-served basis. Please don’t hesitate to get your cheque in as soon as possible. The course will depend on getting enough candidates however.

Should you meet the pre-requisites for the Senior Instructor Course and would like to book a place, please can you send the cheque to Helen Dagens at Killyleagh Outdooor Education Centre, Shore Road, Killyleagh, BT30 9 UE.
The cheque for £50 (deposit) should be payable to the SEABOARD SAILING ASSOCIATION.

Please also send the course application form (details of your log & recommendation are on this), and copies of the three certificates (you can email these if you like). The SI workbook also will need to be completed before the course.

The course is £306 in total.
